After joining in performing arts college, El became a dancer for Carnival Cruise Lines, which is the Miami Heat contract of the National Basketball Association, she also danced for P. Diddy, Kanye West during the MTV Video Music Awards. She also appeared on stage dancing for John Legend.

Aside from earning the victory of Diva Search contest, El also engaged in modelling work. She has been posing for FHM, King, Flex, Smooth, and was the cover girl in the liquid’s first issue
In the year 2006, she became a contestant in WWE Diva Search when her trainer suggested and luckily she earns the contract of the company. Initially she appeared on the SmackDown brand but in January 2007, she was moved in ECW and created a dance group with Brooke Adams and Kelly Kelly. In the year 2008, she began to manage William Regal. The year after, she returned to WWE where she formed a team with Michelle McCool (Team: Lay-Cool).

Suddenly, Lay-Cool starts to knock out following the harm of the Divas Challenge, and start to appear in vignettes series in which both of them attends the couple therapy. On the April 22 as one episode of SmackDown, McCool criticized Layla during one of their story treatment conferences.

She appears again to the core WWE rota at the Extreme Rules, it’s a pay-per-view.On the 29th of April 2012,El substitutes Beth Phoenix, who was not cleared medically to contend, in a competition for the Divas Championship. In spite ofsnooping from Brie Bella, El conquered Nikki Bella to victory the WWE Divas Championship for the very first time.
